Onstep using Eq3 mount

I want to share my latest project, which combines three of my favorite hobbies: electronics, DIY making, and astronomy.

I used a manual EQ3 equatorial mount with two stepper motors and two pulley kits connected with belts, allowing me to move each axis independently.

For the electronics part, I used an ESP32 R32 D1 WeMos along with a CNC V3 shield and two A4988 stepper drivers.

On the software side, I used the OnStepX program available on GitHub, with some modifications to the code to match my electronic and mechanical setup.

Now, I can control my telescope using the OnStep app or Stellarium to select any object I want, and the mount automatically slews to it.

 Building an observatory has always been one of my dreams, and I’m proud to say it’s now a reality. The COSMAN ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATORY is a homemade project, born from passion, recycled materials, and long nights of learning, assembling, and testing. The main structure is built from bricks and concrete, providing solid support and insulation for my instruments.
